Artifact 3: Periodic Table Coloring
At this time, the students had been learning about all the different aspects of the periodic table individually, but they had not yet "put the pieces together." Therefore, I gave them all a blank periodic table, as shown below, and they were given the following directions:
Using the blank periodic table provided create a color coded key to represent the following on the table:
1. State at room temperature (solid, liquid and gas)
2. Transition elements, main group elements, lanthanides, actinides
3. Type of element (metal, non-metal, metalloid)
4. Sublevels (s, p, d, f)
5. Periods 1-7
Students were not allowed to use any words: only symbols.
